EXCERPT

I keep my eyes fixed on the freeway in front of me as I let the comment resonate, knowing it’s truth despite the constant tumult that burdens me. A part of me sags in relief at her observation, knowing that someone else sees the cracks in my resolve while the other part of me begins to question again.

And the scary thing about questions are they usually result in a revolution of some sort. I’m just not sure if I can withstand an overhaul of principles without it resulting in casualties.
“Am I the reason he’s like this Q? How did this person I’ve been with since conception . . . how can we experience the same tragedy but be so completely different? Did I try too hard, protect him too much, throw him to the wolves when I shouldn’t have and end up proving I’m just like Dad?” I speak the questions floating around in my mind aloud, throw them out there even though I know there’s no way in hell she has the answers.

She does nothing more than reach over and lace her fingers with mine, staying silent, but her unconditional support is deafening. Except even with someone beside you, the quiet has a way of smothering you when you’re left alone with just your thoughts. And of course mine turns to where we are headed right now.

ABOUT THIS LITERARY CHEF

kbromberg

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author K. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner who has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her—the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard.

K. lives in Southern California with her husband and three children. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her on the treadmill or with Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Her debut novels, Driven, Fueled, and Crashed of The Driven Trilogy were well received and went on to become multi-platform bestsellers as well as landing on the New York Times and USA Today lists. Her other works include a short story, UnRaveled, and a companion piece to The Driven Trilogy titled Raced. She is currently working on three stand alone Driven novels, Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, and Hard Beat. She also plans to release a novel addressing the 10 year gap at the ending of Crashed in late fall 2015.

Now Janet has to make a choice—play it safe or trust that her first love could also be her last.

Romancing Rebecca by Amazon Top Seller, Kimberley Montpetit

Rebecca Dash loved spending her teen summers swooning over Jane Austin and helping her aunt at the Starry Skies Bed & Breakfast in Snow Valley. But as a recent college grad, she’d rather write sappy romance novels than go out with guys that make her a nervous wreck. When a team of fire-fighters set up camp on the lawns of the B&B and Captain Wade catches her eye, Becca soon learns that there’s more to a happily-ever-after than a flirty fireman with muscles the size of the Montana hills.

Love in Light and Shadow by Amazon Top Seller Lucy McConnell

Mercedes O’Shay has sworn off gorgeous men because they have a tendency to break her heart. When she meets her new neighbor, Chet Bauer, she immediately puts him in the Do Not Date category based on his well-defined muscles and stunning blue eyes. But the more Mercedes learns about the cowboy who reads classics and forges iron, the more she realizes the heart doesn’t see in black and white; it sees light and shadows.

REVIEW

Anthologies are always great for busy readers unable to invest hours at the time!  However; I admit this sweet collection was hard to put down!

Filled with clean romantic novellas, I found this set to be an extraordinary read! The sensual scenes are tasteful and very sensual, without stepping over the naughty boundaries.  Setting is beautifully depicted, characters are well written, and each story line flowed with ease.  While these stories take place in the same small town, every author displayed a unique writing style of their own.  I loved them all!

Book two in the USA Today bestselling Wedding Pact
series.
Divorce attorney Blair Hansen is convinced that marriage
should be based on practicality, not passion. But as her own wedding
approaches, she finds herself remembering her law school boyfriend, the only
man she’s ever loved, and regretting what might have been. Then a twist of fate
lands Garrett back in her life, and the man who loomed large in her past is
suddenly casting a shadow over her wedding, making her question everything. To
complicate matters further, the job she loves is in peril, and she can feel the
‘perfect’ life she’s fashioned for herself start to crumble under her feet.
Could everything she’s believed about life and love be wrong?
Garrett Lowry is a divorce attorney who’s ready to settle
down. The problem is that he can’t find a woman who suits him nearly as well as
the one he loved and lost. He broke her heart by playing the field after their
break up—something he’s always regretted. But after months of pining for Blair,
Garrett stumbles across her in a freak coincidence—and then destiny keeps
throwing them together, the coincidences becoming ever more unlikely. He’s
convinced it’s a sign they should give their love a second chance, but Blair is
engaged to another man—a man who is absolutely wrong for her.
Can Garrett convince Blair that a player once isn’t a player
forever, and that happy endings aren’t just for dreamers?
New York Times and
USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City,
Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a
nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the
course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and
smattering of Spanish and Chinese which she learned through an intensive Nick
Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty Facebook comments (in own
her mind) and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you
believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and
the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within
two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to
perform many
unspeakable tasks.
 She has six
children and hasn’t lost her sanity.
Or so she leads you
to believe.

The shock on Blair’s face matched his own surprise at
his out-of-nowhere declaration.
Nana Ruby was going to kill him.
He’d had no intention of laying claim to the ring,
and in truth, he could give a rat’s ass about it. But damned if he was going to
stand by and let his punk cousin marry Blair, let alone with that ring.
Now, instead of diffusing the situation, he’d
ratcheted it up to Def-Con 1. Jesus, he had to get things under control.
“I won’t rip the ring off the bride-to-be’s hand, if
that’s what you concerned about,” he said, dropping Blair’s hand and trying to
control his racing heart. “We’ll wait for Nana to come tomorrow night. She can
help make the decision.”
This brought on a new round of shouting and dismay.
Whiney Neil tossed out the phrase “you’re her favorite.” While that was
probably true, he doubted Nana could help him get the girl, which was his real
goal. That one was all on him.
Blair looked on in confusion, making it abundantly
clear they’d kept her in the dark about the questionable ownership of her ring.
But soon her bewilderment turned to anger as she narrowed her eyes at
him.
“It’s time for all of you to pay up,” his aunt said
shaking the plastic cat jar. “Blair, you got off easy this time. You only owe a
dollar. Neil, you owe two, and you, Gene Neilson Fredrick, must owe at least
five between the drinking and the cursing.”
Uncle Gene and Aunt Debra had a stare off for several
seconds before Gene caved. He must have decided to choose his battles because
he dug out his wallet and sheepishly stuck a five-dollar bill into the jar.
Neil put in his money and Garrett handed over a dollar when Debra shoved the
jar in Blair’s direction.
His aunt scowled at him. “Surprisingly, you don’t owe
anything.”
Garrett tucked his money into the jar and winked at
Blair. “Oh, this is for the bride. Call it an early wedding gift. But it this
is for cursing, as the label suggests, you owe some money yourself, Aunt
Debra.” His eyebrows rose with mock recrimination.
“And I do believe I need to have a discussion with my
mother about my true parentage. No one ever told me I was a bastard.”
Debra’s face turned red, although Garrett couldn’t
tell if it was from
embarrassment or anger. Probably both.
He’d earned a scowl from Blair for donating the money
on her behalf, but now he could tell she was trying to hold back a grin.
“That was an unfortunate loss of self-control.”
The woman’s face twisted into disgust as she pulled her wallet out of her purse
and pulled out one dollar. She screwed an indignant expression on her face.
“The Lowrys seem to bring out the worst in me.”
Blair tipped her head, her eyes dancing with
mischief. “Actually, Debra, you owe two dollars. One for informing your nephew
of his illegitimacy and the second for spelling out the home of you know
who.”
   Debra’s eyes widened in shock.
“Blair!” Neil cried out in horror.
Garrett knew the Fredricks liked to tiptoe around his
aunt’s self-righteous attitude.
He was glad to see Blair hadn’t kowtowed like the
rest of them.
“You know who?” Garrett asked in amusement. He
couldn’t help but take pleasure in riling up his aunt and irritating his
cousin. Especially since Blair seemed to find Debra as obnoxious as he did.
“Dare I ask who that is?”
Blair lifted her eyebrows. “Why, the prince of
darkness himself.”
“Lord Voldemort?” Garrett teased, shooting his aunt
an amused look.
She wasn’t so pleased. “Who is this Lord Voldemort
you keep talking about? Do we need to add him to the kitty list?”
Garrett burst out into laughter. He was surprised his
aunt didn’t already know about the notorious villain.
“No, Mom,” Neil said. “He’s a character from a
children’s book, which explains why Garrett is so enthralled with him.”
Garrett noticed he left Blair off the naughty list,
but it didn’t stop him from giving her a look of reproach. She glanced away,
trying to hide her grin.
So his Blair was still there, lurking below the prim
and proper exterior. Just like he’d found her years ago.

Excerpt

Prologue

Now.

My name is David Medwin. I’m twenty-one years old. Something bad happened to me.

These are the last, precious moments of my existence. So, while my body is still shrouded in merciful numbness, I let my mind and my soul awaken and wander.

I hold on to my memories and my regrets.

I drink in the world for the last time.

The sky is a dense, dark-blue blanket studded with bright stars. The air is heavy with the sweet scent of flowers and pine trees. The cheerful voices of the night creatures perform a pastoral symphony just for my soul.

No, that’s not right. I’m not alone.

My friend Eagan is resting beside me. His eyelids flutter restlessly, speaking of an uneasy slumber. As I contemplate my best friend, terrible, unexpected anguish surges within my chest. It’s a cold, frightening, strong sensation that forces my mind to focus on my body. My limbs feel strangely weightless, as if I were floating, and my skin were made of dust. But I’m flesh and bones, and my mind knows that the soft numbness is a temporary relief and the sudden sadness brimming inside of me mean something. Something painful.

I’m not alone. Eagan is with me, which means that something bad happened to him as well. I hope he’s not hurt. I want him to live. I don’t want to leave him.

I glance at Eagan once more. My friend’s eyes blink open and, for an infinite moment, his blue gaze lingers upon my features not with familiar kindness, but with fear; then Eagan’s lips part in a wordless cry.

Tour Stop! Chipped Black Nail Polish by @NicholasTanek

A tribute to a different kind of Jersey girl.

In New Jersey during the summer of 1989, an awkward thirteen-year-old who was obsessed with weird music fell head-over-heels in love with the coolest post-punk rock girl he had ever met.

Nicholas was insecure. He was a daydreamer, wishing for romance when he was told, over and over, that he could not have it. He was a toy, pulled and pushed, wanted and used, dragged along yet held at a distance. Nicholas fell in with the out crowd, and loved every minute of it. He fell in love and got left behind, but not before she changed him forever.

This is an irrational, emotional love story for the teenager inside all of us.

The music is loud, and you’re about to be pushed into the pit.

What some people are saying…

“I should have put you in therapy.” – my mother

“I insist that you use my real name.” – Kevin

“Finally, a title that doesn’t scare people off. Not like the first book, The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself.” – Kim Gray, publicist
“Never apologize for being weird,” Kim once told me.

Please do not make me hang out with someone who wants to be the next lead singer for Poison.

.foreword by Wendy Buck
Three months after I read Nicholas’ first book, The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself, my thirteen-year-old daughter, M, told me she was a lesbian. I did not know Nicholas before reading his first book, but he has since become a close friend and confidant. I shared M’s news with him and his response was that I had to write a foreword for his next book. I asked him for the correlation between her announcement and his book, because I didn’t get it. And I fought him on it. What does being gay have in common with being punk rock? He told me to think about the term in a non-music sort of way. What does it represent? And so I did what I always do. I went away and I thought about what he said.
Chipped Black Nail Polish takes place when I was a teenager, during the height of punk rock. As so many of us did, I promised myself I would never grow up to be one of those adults who forgot where she came from. The music was important, but more than that, what punk rock stood for took center stage for me: the do it- yourself philosophy, questioning the norm, thinking critically, and pushing the boundaries of acceptability. But above all of those things, the most basic characteristic of punk rock is to be true to one’s self.
But, I broke that promise. I lost sight of myself and became someone I thought I should be in the eyes of my peers. And so, Nicholas and his book came along shortly after I started questioning my decisions and choices in life. Not only have I benefited from his being such a good friend, but so too has my daughter.
I raise M to be a free thinker and she is very much a free spirit. When I look at her, I am so proud of the young woman she is becoming. She will make her mark. And just like how she came out to the world, she will do it in her own way and in her own time. Do not rush this child, and do not expect her to do it the normal way. She is a weirdo.
Nicholas has captured only one summer, three months, in this book. These months were pinnacle in defining him as an adult. He, too, was thirteen during the events that took place. I am so grateful that Kim entered his life, for however brief that time was. She taught him to live in acceptance of one’s self, to question everything, to stretch himself outside his perceived comfort zone. She taught him punk rock. She taught him it was okay to be a weirdo.

When I first met Kim, I felt as if I was in the recording session of a beautiful chanteuse who captured my heart. I wanted to collect all her records, including the B-sides and the demos.

Nicholas Tanek is an American ghostwriter from New Brunswick, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in English. Nicholas Tanek grew up as a New Jersey punk rock skater kid who lost himself in the early 90’s New York City rave scene. After years of drug addiction, he got his life together when he was reunited with Lynn, the love of his life, before she died at the age of 37. Instead of choosing negativity, he chose creativity. Losing Lynn inspired him to write his first book, The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself. There is quite a bit of kinky sex, drugs, and music in the life of Nicholas Tanek and he has some unique stories to tell.

Joely Morgan never expected to start
her life over again just months shy of the Big 4-0. But she didn’t expect her
husband to cheat on her either. She packs up her kids and heads home to Mom—who
happens to own the most popular restaurant in town. Joely immediately throws
herself into emotionally charged cooking, and her passion-infused sweets are an
instant hit.

Xander Davy, the much younger,
good-looking, smooth-talking restaurant manager, can’t help but notice the new,
attractive addition to his kitchen. The only problem, as he sees it, is that
she doesn’t seem to know how desirable she is. He quickly decides to remind
Joely what it means to feel like a sensual woman again.
Xander’s shameless pursuit makes Joely’s
soon-to-be ex rethink letting her go. He uses the children to try to get Joely
back, but their sixteen-year-old daughter has other plans. She’s fallen head
over heels with none other than Xander, who has his sights set firmly on her
mother.
In BACK FOR SECONDS, author Ginger
Voight serves up a heaping amount of sensuality and angst in a tale of sexual
and personal awakening, one that examines reclaiming womanhood no matter where
you are in life.

***Excerpt Contains Mature Content***

When she returned to the house, she met a delivery driver at the
door, who carried a large white box. “Miss Morgan?” he asked.
She fought the urge to correct him and say, “Mrs. Morgan,”
considering, like Xander and Novanna had said, that wasn’t who she was anymore.
“Yes,” she said as she approached.
“Package for you,” he said as he handed it off.
She fished a few dollars from her purse to tip the young man
before carrying the large parcel into the house and up the stairs. She didn’t
stop until she reached the bedroom, where she deposited the box onto her bed.
Before she could rip it open, her phone rang.
It was Xander.
“Good morning,” he crooned into her ear.
“I assume you had something to do with this,” she said as she sat
on the bed next to her gift.
“Guilty as charged,” he admitted happily. “Open it.”
She put him on speakerphone before she lifted the top of the box
away and moved the tissue aside to reveal a silky black and lace dress. “Oh,
Xander,” she murmured as she withdrew it, revealing a flowing skirt, snug
bodice with a sweetheart neckline that dipped low in front. The wide straps
were made of lace and the style was much like the other 50s-inspired clothing
he’d selected for her. He clearly preferred retro glamour. “It’s lovely.”
“I’m glad you like it. I can’t wait until tonight so I can see you
in it.” She shivered in spite of herself. “There’s just one thing,” he
murmured.
“What’s that?”
“You’re not allowed to wear any underwear underneath it,” he said
in a voice so low it nearly made Joely groan out loud.
“Allowed?” she echoed.
“That’s right. No panties. No bra. Just you. When I hold you close
to me tonight at The Ranch, I want to know that I’m just a fine bit of silk
away from fxxxxxg you right there on that dance floor. And I want everyone else
to know it, too.”
“Xander,” she started, but he wouldn’t allow it.
“Ah, ah,” he said, and she could hear the smirk in his voice. “I’m
the one in charge, remember? And you will be a good girl and do as you’re
told.”
She could barely breathe. “Okay.”
“That’s not all,” he said. “I want you to drop off the kids
wearing this dress.”
Her heart nearly stopped. “Why?”
“I want him to see what he threw away.”
She made a face he couldn’t see. “He won’t care,” she said.
“Yes, he will,” Xander promised. “Because somewhere deep down
he’ll know that this weekend you belong to someone new.”

 Ginger

longhand on notebook paper, while living out of her car. Fittingly, this book
will be the first released through a traditional publisher in 2015.
 In 1995, after
she lost her nine-day-old son, she worked through her grief by writing the
story that would eventually become The Fullerton Family Saga.
 In 2011, she embarked
on a new journey—to publish romance novels starring heroines who look more like
the average American woman. These “Rubenesque” romances have
developed a following thanks to her bestselling Groupie series. Other titles,
such as the highly-rated New Adult series, Fierce, tap into the
“reality-TV” preoccupation in American entertainment, which gives her
contemporary stories a current, pop culture edge.

 Known for
writing gut-twisting angst, Ginger isn’t afraid to push the envelope with
characters who are perfectly imperfect. Whether rich, poor, sweet, selfish,
gay, straight, plus-size or svelte, her characters are beautifully flawed and
three-dimensional. They populate her lavish fictional landscapes and teach us
more about the real world in which we live simply through their interactions
with each other. Ginger’s goal with every book is to give the reader a little
bit more than they were expecting, told through stories they’ll never forget.

Review

An excellent YA Sci-Fi with enough teenage angst and drama to keep readers glued to the pages! The story line was well written and flowed easily. Recommend for readers ages fifteen and above.

Excerpt

I rush back up the dark stairwell, shoving the key into the doorknob. It takes a minute for the lock to click and I push myself inside the apartment, securing every lock and deadbolt. I can’t stay here in Hutchinson, Kansas any longer. Pulling my phone from my purse, I text Weston.

Tatiana is here. It’s not safe for me.

I grab the few belongings that have any value to me, sentimental or otherwise, and shove it into my shoulder bag, including the stolen silver necklace. It has value and if I’m forced on the run, I’ll need money to survive.

I know.

What did Weston mean he knew Tatiana is at the bar? Had he seen her? Is he there?

What do you mean, you know? I type into the phone. If he saw her, why didn’t he warn me? I can’t go down out the front door and it’s only a matter of time until she finds me just a few feet away. I grow restless waiting for an answer.

The phone buzzes and displays an incoming call from Weston. “Wes, tell me you’re here.” The only thing to do is hop in his car and drive into the night, far from Kansas.

A female’s voice bubbles with laughter. “Oh he’s coming darling, but you should know he won’t get here in time. Amazing how easy it is to clone a phone number and steal his service. The advancements Stem Tech has made is encouraging.”
