Crane by Stacey Rourke
Legends Saga Book 1
Crane

The Horseman is unending,

his presence shan’t lessen.

If you break the curse,

you become the legend.

Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep.

What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you?

Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse.

But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?

REVIEW

This was a very unusual twist on Irving’s classic tale, but I found it extraordinary!

The narration alternates between the present heroine, Ireland, and her ancestor, Ichabod Crane. This brilliant maneuver allows you to follow both characters as their stories unfold which builds anticipation and intensifies the mystery. I was completely engulfed in this exciting thriller as the pages seemed to race across my kindle! There are several supporting characters that make a complex addition to this story, and a few that add comedic relief when needed.

With the perfect balance of gore, romance, comedy, and mystery, I found this novel to be an excellent YA read!

About Stacy Rourke

staceyrourke

There is nothing worse than being put on the spot and asked to talk about yourself. For me it brings back that inevitable moment in a new school when the teacher would ask me to stand up, introduce myself and tell the class something about myself. I was always worried I would blurt out something stupid that I would get teased for. Something like, “My name’s Stacey and I like pickles!” Then for the rest of the school year I’d be known as the Pickle Girl and let’s be honest, no one wants that. So to avoid such a faux pas I will simply say that I love to write. It allows me to get my crazy out just enough that I can function as a normal member of society.

GIVEAWAY & REVIEW..SIX MILLION ACCUSERS Catching Adolf Echmann By D. LAWRENCE-YOUNG

EICH

SYNOPSIS

“Six Million Accusers” is a historical novel reliving the hunt for, and capture of one of history’s most evil criminals – a leading Nazi named Adolf Eichmann.

Having disappeared after WWII, members of an Israeli organization search the world for Eichmann, hoping to one day capture one of the men responsible for brutally massacring millions of Jews, and others. Following any tip possible, eventually they discover a Jewish father and daughter who swear Eichmann quietly lives in their community, under a new name. The search for Eichmann ramps up, and the agents begin to fervently believe they have found their man.

As they get closer and closer, a plan must also be created to capture Eichmann, and secretly transport the villain back to Israel. Is it really Eichmann? And if so, what complications may arise that might destroy their plans to have this notorious Nazi held responsible for his crimes?

REVIEW

This is a gripping tale that chilled me to the bone!

Although this story is told by a fictitious Mossad officer, the author brings him to life by including historical actualities. I was immediately entranced by Hiam’s tale and exhilarated as his chase began. You’d have to be made of stone not to be affected by the characters and the sacrifices made, in the name of the “Accusers”.

After the emotional journey this novel chartered, I would read ANYTHING D. Lawrence-Young wrote. The historical significance and the brilliant manner in which this tale is delivered will educate, while keeping you entertained. Excellent read!

D. Lawrence-Young takes the often pompous and frequently silly “Shakespeare Authorship Controversy” and turns it into a fast-paced page-turning detective story. All the nooks and crannies of rival candidates and claims are traversed in interesting locations and often funny encounters. The SAC has got under the Shakespeare-loving and teaching David Young’s skin and he has turned this irritant into a pleasure to read and from which there is much to learn.

REVIEW: WOLF HUNGER(Book 3 of the Dragon Heat Series)BY ELLA J. PHOENIX

WolfHunger_EJP_400px_FINAL

Blurb:

When the last box of deadly bullets is stolen, the hunt is on and the Vampire King’s band of fighters is set for the challenge of recovering it. But Yara, the shifter-witch, has other problems to face. She must help her leader to overcome the strange illness that has befallen her before it’s too late. For that, she must go back to the only place she swore never to return – her home land.

Rafe is a typical lone wolf who spends his nights earning his bucks in the fighting ring. When he was offered a pardon for his debts in exchange for the Vampire King’s head, he didn’t even blink, thinking it would be a hard mission but not impossible. He just wasn’t expecting the saucy shifter-witch to cross his path and ruin his plans. Now, he can’t get her out of his mind and the clock is ticking for him to make good on his word.

This is the third novel of the Dragon Heat series – a paranormal lover’s delight with vampires, shifters, dragons, witches, bathed in magic.

***Warning: this novel contains hot, steamy, descriptive sexual scenes. Enjoy.***

Review:

As a fellow reader, I highly recommend reading the previous novels in this series.

This series is my form of crack! Ella J. Phoenix has repeatedly hijacked my attention, emotions, and imagination with her spellbinding creativity.

I was elated to receive Yara’s story and this author delivered with a stellar cast and exemplary story line!

Yara’s backstory is my favorite of the unusual paranormal family involved here. I admit that I’m partial to witches, but her beauty, toughness, demeanor, and loyalty scream super-heroine. Following her quest to save Zoricah was a heartbreaking adventure, but very exhilarating. I simply love her interaction with Rafe! He’s very similar to Yara as far as attributes go, but he’s less willing to believe in fate. Entertainment ensues as the carnal beings realize they’ve met their match.

There are several wonderful elements that make this novel whole. Phoenix has delivered a paranormal hierarchy that mirrors medieval times, has skillfully made her own version of “The Fates” from Greek mythology, and has balanced every emotion strategically.

True to form, she’s left us with a cliffhanger so I’ll be impatiently awaiting my next fix!

About This Literary Chef:

ella

I discovered I was addicted to the paranormal when I was quite young – I blame it on the super heroes. Damn you, Wonder Woman! That passion led me to a number of amateur theatre productions in my home town, then ultimately to a bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts.

It wasn’t very cool to spend five years working my ass off for no money. But, I have to say, it was then that I made my first attempts into the literary world. The first ones were writing children’s plays for my family’s language school. After a couple of blunders, I decided to translate Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream into a dancing and kicking play. It was so much fun that after that, let’s just say that I caught the bug.

Blog Tour! STORIES AND SCRIPTS AN ANTHOLOGY by ZACK LOVE

Thought-provoking, dreamy, sad, and hilarious, this collection of works by Zack Love takes you on a diverse and unforgettable literary journey through a variety of topics, themes, and emotions. The anthology totals about 73,000 words and contains a novelette, four short stories, a theater play, and a screenplay. These seven spellbinding stories spanning several styles and genres include a dramatic romance, a satire of the mega-rich, a somber and soulful reflection on the problem of evil, humorous dating adventures, and stories driven by philosophical musings. The anthology includes:1) THE DOORMAN – A NOVELETTEAlex seems to have it all: a great penthouse apartment, a lovely girlfriend, and a prestigious Wall Street job. But below the surface he is sure of nothing but his angst-ridden doubts. And when he realizes that his doorman may be God, or sent by God, he will question things like never before.

This novelette is a story of New York doormen, tormented love, empty office life, and the theological questions that arise in response to the horrors of evil.

2) CENTRAL PARK SONG – A SCREENPLAY (ROMANCE)

Can love really conquer all? Rodney is a passionate black man with brilliant talents but a mental illness that leaves him homeless. Melinda is a white Manhattan law partner with an artistic soul, trapped by the pressures of corporate law, her wealthy father, and her three-year boyfriend. A charming, chance encounter leads to a magical courtship and life-changing choices that make an unlikely New York romance possible.

3) THE GRAND UNIFIED STORY – A SHORT STORY

What happens when a man and a woman meet in a way that magically involves the entire universe? When both are so keenly aware of their place in the cosmos that their connection seems to transcend their union and capture the very essence of life. This story shows how each person is a world to be discovered and how sometimes, when two worlds collide, the universe seems that much smaller.

4) CITY SOLIPSISM – A SHORT STORY

Have you ever been on a train, bus, metro/subway – or any other shared space with strangers – and started to wonder what that person right next to you is thinking? This story takes you on a journey into the mind of a man in a suit and tie on a New York City subway car, as he thinks about the woman standing awkwardly close to him. They are total strangers but their proximity is almost intimate as their hands share the same metal subway pole.

5) WAITING FOR 2000 – AN ABSURDIST COMEDY OF BILLIONAIRE PROPORTIONS

Inspired by and reminiscent of Samuel Beckett’s absurdist stage play “Waiting for Godot,” this Y2K theater comedy satirizes the frivolous extravagance of the mega-rich.

Bob’s Billionaire Boat boasts the world’s 2,000 richest people on it, and will enable them to celebrate the arrival of the year 2000 twice in a row by crossing the International Dateline on New Year’s Eve 1999. The co-captains of the boat — two regular guys — keep themselves amused with endlessly silly banter while occasionally debating whether the whole thing is just a fictional stage play.

Meanwhile, two Wall Street traders who are bitter about missing the wealth cutoff for the billionaire cruise are determined to blow up the boat and thereby become the two richest people on earth.

In this satire, the zaniest billionaires ever to gather on a single vessel prove that there’s still plenty to complain about at the top.

6) MY BEST VALENTINE’S DAY. EVER. – A SHORT STORY

Sammy Laffowitz is legendary for his dating disasters and sex mishaps. This time, misfortune strikes on Valentine’s Day – but with a fun twist that makes Sammy seem studly for a change.

7) MY WORST VALENTINE’S DAY. EVER. – A SHORT STORY

Yi Wang is a NY bad boy who plans to make history on Valentine’s Day with his female exploits. The handsome, alpha-male, Chinese-American is a corporate lawyer who usually gets his way with women, but this time he makes one stupid mistake that leaves everyone but him laughing hysterically at his epic fail.

 REVIEW BOX
The synopsis that goes along with each and every piece of literature in this anthology summarizes with perfect skill.  Zack Love is a brilliant writer that quickly captured my attention and held me hostage until the final page.  I thoroughly enjoyed his intelligent writing style and creative nature.  Great for quick reads on the go, separately,  or perfect for one very entertaining sitting!

THE DOORMAN
Why was I going to watch my hairline recede in front of two-thousand-line spreadsheets staring at me from cold, glowing monitors? Why was everyone in my office apparently so happy to be spending so many hours there, when the things they really cared about – persons, pets, pastimes – were all relegated to a few photographs on their desks? That seemed to be the formula: spend the best years of your life in an office with photos of what you really care about.
CITY SOLIPSISM
Without lifting her eyes, she takes her right hand off the [subway] bar for a moment and gently – almost sensuously – rubs the arm holding her Time magazine. She puts her hand back onto the warm, slippery bar, a few centimeters below mine, so that if I’m not careful my hand could slide down onto hers with the fits and starts of our train. She’s still reading. I look at the people around me, and I think about how New York City is such a people city. Everywhere I look, there are people. There are so many people from so many places with so many stories that I wonder how they all manage to morph into this mass of anonymity…
CENTRAL PARK SONG
Let the park live in you until it sings you a song. Taste the air of dampened wood in your mouth. Hear the autumn leaves rustling in the zephyr of your mind. See the squirrels bounding across branches hanging from your thoughts. Let your soul frolic in the smell of the park’s grass. Touch every inch of the park that your memory can fly through as if you had only two more minutes to live. And let me take you out to dinner.
THE GRAND UNIFIED STORY
“It’s this awkward because this is only the second time that we’re together,” Steve thought. He remembered how banal their first meeting was: a silly conversation in the post office about how different their mail was (he was sending a copy of his doctoral dissertation in astrophysics to a university in California and she was sending a package with some of her artwork to her aunt in Brazil). But something felt special – almost providential – about their interaction. “And the serendipity required, for her to be walking along the Charles just when I was, even though she lives a good twenty minutes away, in Boston,” he thought.
WAITING FOR 2000

MY BEST VALENTINE’S DAY. EVER.
Sure, I’m a balding, chubby, short actuary – but I’ve had some really studly moments with the ladies, and Zack very conveniently left those out of his book. So I’m delighted to open up a bit about these particular details, in honor of Valentine’s Day (when every balding, chubby, and short actuary wants people – especially the babes out there – to know about his studly past).
MY WORST VALENTINE’S DAY. EVER.
Yes, I’m a chauvinist pig. But I’m also in my twenties and living in New York, which doesn’t help. And if you ever disrespect one of my sisters, I will break your jaw.

reviewbookenthu

This series should be read in order, as they are each connected, and you will miss intricate details that bring everything together.

This is an author to watch!  I love her writing style, creativity, and uncanny ability to capture the reader indefinitely.  I have spent hours trying to tie my thoughts into one review, but I’m so blown away, I find it impossible.  I will say, however, that I felt every emotion, could see and hear everything as if I were there, and her depiction of Ireland makes me miss my kin!  I laughed and cried throughout this intelligently written, hard to put down, wonderfully unique novel.

A definite must read!

Meet the Author

annie rose welchBorn and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California). Her writing career began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above her like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn’t stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.

When she’s not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. She currently (still) resides in the big shake (although her southern roots are calling her home) with her husband, daughter, and their two peculiar dogs, Boudreaux and Tabasco (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY! THAT’S A LIE (PROMISES, PROMISES BOOK 2) by VICTORIA KLAHR

That’s A Lie

Author: Victoria Klahr

Release Date: March 25, 2014

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Add It: Goodreads

Seth is back.

When he walked back into my life, it almost felt like the pieces of my broken heart could be fixed. I thought we could go back to being best friends, but then I started to feel what I had been blocking out for years. I tried. Boy, did I try! But once I started to let him in, I wanted nothing more than to cross that line from friendship into something more…

Just when I think I can move on and let myself be happy, an ugly reminder from my past comes storming in and threatens to destroy the sliver of hope that’s been growing since Seth came back.

Do I even deserve to be loved?

“I’m not asking to fix your heart. I’m not asking to mend you. I love each and every shattered piece of you. I’m asking that you let me love you. Let me love each piece of your broken heart, and I swear to you I will make up for every heartache you have ever experienced.”

I came back for Josie.

I knew I’d have to fight for her, but with the loss of her dad and the truth about what happened with her and Blake, I quickly realized that making her mine was going to be a lot harder than I first thought. The problem is, I can’t pretend like she’s just my best friend. I can’t pretend I don’t want more.

I’m willing to do anything to get her to admit she has the same passionate feelings for me, because I know once she opens up and stops lying to herself, I can show her what it really means to be loved. It’s a battle of wills, but my love for her is stronger than her will to stop me.

So I fight for her. I fight because I know she deserves it.

From That’s A Lie© 2014 Victoria Klahr

“You lied to me,” he said gruffly, sitting on the barstool at my counter. His blonde hair flopped in front of his eyes, and my hands itched to push it back. To get to touch him again the way I want to would satisfy only a millimeter of the need I have, but it would relieve some of the pain. I turned around to hide my thoughts.

“Ugh… I need coffee,” I said vacantly, reaching for my coffee maker. I didn’t even hear Seth move, but his hand grabbed mine and he turned me around, placing his hands beside me on the countertop to trap me. My breath caught, and I was almost positive he could hear my heart pounding in my chest.

His blue green eyes were angry, but I didn’t even care about him being mad. All that mattered was the charge that thumped between us. I was very aware of him.

“You lied, Josie. You’re not supposed to lie to me.”

“Seth… come on,” I said, turning my face away, unable to look at the raw emotion in his expression. His hand dashed out and grabbed my chin.

“How long, Josie?” he asked. I closed my eyes, not wanting to admit anything. “Open your damn eyes, Jos. Stop fucking hiding.” His voice was hard, but it was also full of desperation. I opened my eyes and narrowed them at him.

He doesn’t understand that I need to keep him away from me. My life is tainted by darkness, and he doesn’t need that. “It doesn’t matter, Seth. I’m fine.”

“Like fucking hell it doesn’t matter. I haven’t heard you scream like that since after everything that happened.”

He was referring to when I would have nightmares after I was raped. He or one of my dads would come lay with me to help me fall asleep. Every day that Seth wasn’t in school, he was there with me, trying to make the nightmares go away.

“Since the engagement party,” I whispered, looking down. I don’t know why I admitted it, but I think there was a part of me that realized I couldn’t hold onto all this pain anymore.

That’s when my resolve started to break. How long can I go on fighting the feelings that I have for Seth? How long can I act like nothing hurts me?

“Fuck, Jos…,” he whispered back, placing his forehead against mine. I was able to smell the mixture of hay and apple pie on his skin, and I almost lost my footing from wanting him so badly. “You should have told me.”

“I didn’t want you to worry,” I admitted.

“I worry about you every second you’re not with me, Pussy Cat. Every second that you hide behind that wall you’ve built, I wonder when you’re going to crack.” His hand reached up to caress my face, and I started to lean into his touch. It was only a minute movement, but I still heard Seth’s breath hitch. My lapse in self-control made him bold. He brought his mouth to the side of mine, and kissed me. I couldn’t stop the whimper before it escaped my mouth.

“There you are,” he whispered hoarsely against my lips. I wanted to bask in the moment, but I had already opened up to him too much. I pushed through the barricade he had made, and ran back to my room.

Review

The best relationships start with a wonderful friendship!

I was filled with emotion as my heart ached for both Josie and Seth.  There were times that I felt somewhat frustrated with Josie, but Seth’s character is such a powerful force of devotion and love, I quickly dismissed my judgement and put myself in her shoes. A great deal of growth and maturity is involved, with a little bit of life’s lessons on the side.

Klahr’s prolific writing style is impressive, and I am enchanted by her work.  This love is earned, and she has captured my attention for the whole ride!  I highly recommend this spicy tale to lovers of romance!

Review:

Growing up, I was a horror film junkie! While Freddie, Jason, and Michael pumped my adrenaline, they never caused me any permanent damage. What scarred me for life was The Exorcist, Chainsaw Massacre, Jaws, and The Amityville series. For in my mind, these were the real horrors that lurked in the shadows. After all, they were loosely based on real stories, right?

Recently, I’ve noticed a fad in which authors are rewriting stories to fit the young adult group, and why not? I think it’s a brilliant idea that gives our teens a bigger variety of literature to choose from.

This novel in particular has interlaced two stories, a decade apart, into a chilling tale!

I applaud this author, as she has done a great job of writing a novel that terrifies, thrills, and disgusts! The brilliance of her work is in the details, as her creativity and story background was above and beyond what I expected. There are a few twists added, making this version of the horror classic a more unique and interesting tale than the previous stories. The narrative is bounced expertly between two teens, whose lives have been abruptly changed by the house and other entities involved. I must add that although Ostow leads you down a twisted path, the most heinous of acts are left to the reader’s imagination. As expected, there are some bloody scenes, a few mentions of abuse, and some vivid descriptions of a demented mind in action. There were several times when nothing seemed real, but everything was horrifying. I loved it!

I highly recommend this to mature young adults, high school being the youngest, and adults who love the paranormal, thrillers, and horrors!

Hudson glanced at her. “With what we taught you. The dragon is no different than a man.”

“It has wings and is flying at me. I’d say it’s different!”

REVIEW

This is an excellent YA fantasy with a little twist of Greek Mythology squeezed in!

The characters are wonderfully written, and quite the cast!  Although this is just the introduction, you get to know important facts about each person, or creature, involved.  There’s   a hint of romance, and a great deal of heartbreak involved.  These kids seemed somewhat naive, but brave, and I was impressed with the compassion they showed each other.  Lil and Bray were exposed to different sides of Orenda during their stay, with Bray’s being the worst, but Willow and her gang helped them every step of the way.

The background on Orenda is a little hazy, but the author gives enough to satisfy for now.  I expect the gaps will be filled throughout the series, but I have to admit that I’m completely satisfied with this book.  The writing style is intelligent, easy to follow, and fast paced.  Each twist was unexpected and brilliantly placed, which made the story more addictive!

After dealing with a demon sorceress, the darkest version of Tinkerbell I’ve ever heard of, and a few mental bombshells, I am anxiously awaiting the author’s next move!

About the Author:

Ruth Silver is the best-selling author of ABERRANT, a young adult dystopian adventure series published by Patchwork Press and Lazy Day Publishing, in 2013. Silver attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Communication in the spring of 2005. While in college, she spent much of her free time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, Deuces are Wild, which she self-published in 2004. Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often handed in assignments longer than the professor required, because she loved to write and always wanted to finish her stories. Her love of writing led her on an adventure in 2007 to Melbourne, Australia. Silver enjoys reading, photography, traveling and most of all writing. She loves dystopian and fantasy young adult stories. Ruth has been actively writing since she was a teenager. Upcoming works include Royal Reaper, a young adult series about grim reapers, due for release June 3rd, 2014. She currently resides in Plainfield, Illinois.

Synopsis

Dani is determined to change. Trodden down by her abusive stepdad, neglectful mother, and nonexistent social life, Dani decides to leave it all behind—she flees into the night and finds herself in a dark, and strangely wondrous, new world. A world unknown to most humans.

However, destiny is an unpredictable force. Through a peculiar turn of events, she unknowingly gets entangled in a brutal war waging between two factions of vampires.

The Ruemisuds are a technologically advanced, elite vampire society that wants absolute control. They will stop at nothing to get it, including experimenting on unsuspecting humans and decimating the Rhowels, a clandestine, rebel clan of vampires. This clan possesses a key to survival that the Ruemisuds desperately want, and they will protect it until the bitter end.

Dani’s riveting journey has just begun in this beautiful tale of love, hate, betrayal, and, above all, survival. The war is escalating quickly and Dani is determined to survive. Who will help her? Who will win the war?

There were several distinctions that made this novel a very unique and enjoyable read.

I must first warn that this story is not for the timid, as there are quite a few gory scenes which involve abuse, suffering, torment, and blood, blood, blood! I loved it! The author depicts everything with a great amount of skill.

I was completely captivated by this story from the start. The change in narration kept the pace steady, and each was easy to follow. The characters are easily relatable, the story line gripping, and the romance is sizzling! While the Rhowels are talked about, we learn more about the Ruemisuds in this installment. The basis of war is explained, but I was left yearning for more.

With a heartbreaking tale that pulls you in, I can’t wait for the continuation!
