REVIEW!! A Veil of Glass and Rain:Special Edition by Petra March (A Touch of Cinnamon, Book 1)
Posted by The Literary Melting Pot in Book News, Reviews on April 2, 2015
Synopsis
Brina and Eagan meet for the first time when she’s nine and he’s fourteen. They like each other from the very beginning, though their bond isn’t immediate, but it grows over the years. What links them is the fact that their parents are photographers and are extremely devoted to their work and to each other; so much so that both Brina and Eagan have to learn how to take care of themselves from a very young age. Despite their differences, age, gender, nationality – Brina is Italian and Eagan is American – they find comfort in their growing friendship.
Then Brina becomes a teenager, and her feelings for her friend start changing and deepening. New desires stir within her. As soon as Brina realizes how those feelings complicate her friendship with Eagan, she runs away from him.
A few years later, Brina is twenty and Eagan is twenty-five, they find one another once again.
Publisher’s Note: This is a fully re-edited and enriched with new and special contents version of the previously published novel, A Veil of Glass and Rain, by Petra F. Bagnardi (aka Petra March).
**Ages 18+ Recommended due to adult content**
Review
This was a very passionate, romantic, and emotional novel!
Brina and Eagan have a very intense relationship that many can understand, but not all. The depth of their love is tormenting, while at the same time comforting. Their need for one another is complicated by their need for independence. As their background is given, the pieces fall into place, making this a wonderful read as a whole!
I devoured this book! March’s writing style is expressive and dramatic, which hooked me from the start. There’s a musician inside of her somewhere, as she shares songs at the end, but her writing throughout this novel has a certain melody of its own.
While the story spans over several years, the narration flips from the past to present, then from Brina to Eagan. The author manages this change of direction in a most expert manner, adding complexity to the story. The sensual scenes are explicit, and wonderful! Setting is depicted beautifully, secondary characters are strong, and the flow starts as a steady stream only to turn into a raging river of speed reading. I loved this novel & I highly recommend to lovers of deep romance!

Review
Catching the series a little late, I was surprised how well the author makes this novel stand on its own.
This is a lovely story involving two emotionally wounded characters, just trying to move forward. The quaint setting, and the author’s exceptional taste in music was a definite plus, but the main story line is quite a treat! Callie was a little hard on Everett at times, as one would expect considering her past, but Everett’s resolve proved him the quintessential hero. Their tale is touching, funny, heartbreaking, and sometimes frustrating, but I loved this couple!
Excellent read!

Excerpt
She re-read her edits and was about to make a phone call to Colleen when she heard the doorbell. She walked to the front door and looked out the window to find a delivery man holding a long, white box. Her heart swelled and skipped a beat as she opened the door. Hudson used this florist.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Smyth. These are for you. Sign here.”
She smiled and signed for the flowers. “Thank you.”
“Have a good day.”
“You too,” she replied.
With a huge smile on her face she opened the box and placed the flowers in her favorite crystal vase on the island right next to the laptop. She quickly called Colleen and made plans to meet her on Monday to finalize the movie deal. Alex was on cloud nine. She opened a new document and started writing what she hoped would be her next novel. She’d been working for a good hour when she heard the garage door open and Hudson’s car pull in. She looked at the time, it was only a little after three. Her heart soared as she heard the back door open. She looked up and there he stood with a bottle of wine in his hand.
“I see you received the flowers.”
“Thank you,” she replied as she walked slowly toward him.
You could almost feel the electricity in the air between them, they were like two ends of a magnet searching for the connection they desperately needed. Hudson placed his briefcase and the bottle of wine on the table. She was finally in his arms and their lips met.
Alex squealed as Hudson took a few steps and she found her back up against the wall. Alex was desperate for him, their hands and lips were all over each other.
“Alex, God.” Hudson moaned when she undid his pants.
They wasted no time undressing each other. Alex wrapped her legs around his waist and moaned as he eased into her. He started out slowly, as if wanting to savor the reconnection, but soon the passion swept over them and he took her fast and hard against the kitchen wall.
Alex lay sated in Hudson’s arms on the kitchen floor as they tried to catch their breaths.
“I’m so sorry about last night.”
“You’re forgiven,” Alex replied before she kissed his chest. “But I’m at fault also, it takes two to fight.”
“I started it.”
She let out a laugh.
“What’s so funny?”
“I just realized that we’re lying on the kitchen floor naked in the middle of the afternoon.”
“Well, maybe we should take this to a more appropriate room.”
“Like where, the dining room?” Alex teased.
Hudson laughed and stood up. “I prefer the soft bed over the hard table.”
Alex smiled as he held out his hand to her. He helped her up and they made their way to the bedroom, where they spent the rest of the day reconnecting.

Imagine yourself in a place where not only your wildest, most imaginative dreams but also your worst nightmares are a living, breathing reality. One second, you’re a helpless, victimized child, and the next you can control ocean currents, produce rainstorms, and freeze lakes. Would you use your powers for good? Or would you give in to the part of yourself that wants revenge and control over those who caused you pain?
This is exactly what a young girl named Sara had to decide when she was rescued from her horrible foster parents, the Finklesteins, and taken by her new guardian, Rianna, to a realm where magic has no limits and neither do Sara’s powers. Before Sara can decide, she meets three new friends: Thomas and James, two orphaned boys her age with similar abilities, and Olie, a powerful man who helps to guide the three of them on their quest to keep this magical universe in balance.
With Olie and Rianna’s help, the children’s circle of three creates a strong bond that fights against the evil forces of the realm. When they meet Braccus, a most evil being who wants to disrupt the magical world the children have come to treasure, Sara, Thomas, and James know they have a dangerous road ahead of them. But they’re not alone; they soon meet another circle of three orphaned children with miraculous powers: Alice, Franklin, and Finola, and together the two circles of three create a force that will challenge even Bracus. But will these children be able to band together and save the world as they know it? Or will Bracus have his way and tear them asunder?

Review
What a magical debut!
I simply adored this creatively crafted novel! Sara’s journey begins in a miserable world in which she is helpless and alone, but she finds strength from within. A sweet heroine, deserving of the great power she possesses, is always a wonderful example for our young ladies. Of course, the boys are an excellent addition to story as well. Each new character is introduced smoothly, allowing an even flow, and the story never lacks adventure. Once I began reading this book, I couldn’t put it down! Exciting, fun, and captivating!
Appropriately written for ages eleven and beyond!

All she has to do is take a chance…
“Thank you. This was really nice of you, especially when I haven’t given you a reason to be.”
Everett looked up at her, wiping the rain off his face so he could meet her gaze. “You seem to assume that just because people are kind to you, they want something. Sometimes people help because it’s the right thing to do.”
Her gaze shifted away, and he went back to tightening the nuts on the wheel. He’d said his piece, but knew he wasn’t going to convince Callie with words that his intentions were honorable.
He had to prove it to her.
When he finished, he released the jack and gathered up all the tools, sliding them back in the spare tire kit. “I’ll put this and the new tire in the back, and you’ll be good to go. I’ll haul this one off to the dump for you.”
She knelt down next to him and took the kit from him, their fingers brushing. Despite the chill of their skin, heat sizzled between them, sending a shot of awareness down his throat. Her blonde curls were wet and falling out of her messy top knot, and drops of rain were clinging to her cheeks. Before he could stop himself, he traced the pad of his thumb across one, catching the cool droplet on his skin. Her amber eyes widened, and he dropped his hand, cursing his impulse.
“Sorry. You had something on your cheek.”
Callie cleared her throat and stood up. “It’s okay.”
He climbed to his feet and couldn’t help wondering if she’d felt something too. Was that why she kept pulling away?
But if she didn’t want him, why was he pushing?
Because she doesn’t treat you like a defective puppy she’d have to fix.
Grabbing her spare tire from the back of his truck, he slid it into the back of her Jeep. She stood back as he closed the door, and he could tell she was nervous—her hands kept twisting.
“Well, you’re all set. You should get home and change out of those wet clothes. If you get sick, I’ll have to listen to one of those ridiculous weekend deejays, and they play nothing but crap.”
Everett started to head back to his truck, but she caught his hand. “Hey.”
Just the touch of her hand sent his heart from a trot to a gallop. He loved the way her soft skin wrapped around his.
Facing her, he waited, afraid to move a muscle and scare her off.
But she moved so fast, he wasn’t prepared when her lips brushed the scarred side of his face. He stiffened as the warmth seeped through his cheek, his stomach twisting up as a thousand thoughts and insecurities made him wince. Had the roughness repelled her? Why hadn’t she picked the untouched side?
“Thank you. For being kind.”
Callie dropped his hand and ran to her car, as if afraid he would come after her. As she started it and pulled forward, he was finally able to move again, backing up a ways to watch her disappear down the road.
Everett’s hand came up to rest against his cheek, and he realized that he’d lied to Callie when he said he didn’t want anything from her.
He wanted everything.
