Lies Come True
REVIEW
The author starts the novel with a dramatic scene and ends on the same note!
This was an intensely written debut that hooked me! The story line is thrilling, terrifying, and quite hard to predict. Although the series is donned the “Avery Hart Trilogy”, this installment revolves around several other characters. Avery, Noah and Fiona play leading roles, but the secondary characters seem to shine as much as the aforementioned trio. I enjoyed the twists and different points of view, as well as the hint of a blossoming romance. There was a great deal of heartbreak and a few gruesome scenes, but this was handled intelligently which strengthened the story. The ending was shocking and I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us!
I must warn that this is a cliffhanger, and a doozy at that! I highly recommend to lovers of murder mysteries & thrillers. You won’t be disappointed!
EXCERPT
She turned back up the trail, and pushed herself to go forward. The next few strides hurt less than the first. She picked up her pace, and squinted into the last of the sunlight, as her heart pounded in her chest.
She took deep breaths as she pushed herself harder, confident that she was gaining ground, and when she reached a clearing by the lake, she looked back.
It was a man, or what looked like one, but his face was white. And red.

Review
Catching the series a little late, I was surprised how well the author makes this novel stand on its own.
This is a lovely story involving two emotionally wounded characters, just trying to move forward. The quaint setting, and the author’s exceptional taste in music was a definite plus, but the main story line is quite a treat! Callie was a little hard on Everett at times, as one would expect considering her past, but Everett’s resolve proved him the quintessential hero. Their tale is touching, funny, heartbreaking, and sometimes frustrating, but I loved this couple!
Excellent read!

All she has to do is take a chance…
“Thank you. This was really nice of you, especially when I haven’t given you a reason to be.”
Everett looked up at her, wiping the rain off his face so he could meet her gaze. “You seem to assume that just because people are kind to you, they want something. Sometimes people help because it’s the right thing to do.”
Her gaze shifted away, and he went back to tightening the nuts on the wheel. He’d said his piece, but knew he wasn’t going to convince Callie with words that his intentions were honorable.
He had to prove it to her.
When he finished, he released the jack and gathered up all the tools, sliding them back in the spare tire kit. “I’ll put this and the new tire in the back, and you’ll be good to go. I’ll haul this one off to the dump for you.”
She knelt down next to him and took the kit from him, their fingers brushing. Despite the chill of their skin, heat sizzled between them, sending a shot of awareness down his throat. Her blonde curls were wet and falling out of her messy top knot, and drops of rain were clinging to her cheeks. Before he could stop himself, he traced the pad of his thumb across one, catching the cool droplet on his skin. Her amber eyes widened, and he dropped his hand, cursing his impulse.
“Sorry. You had something on your cheek.”
Callie cleared her throat and stood up. “It’s okay.”
He climbed to his feet and couldn’t help wondering if she’d felt something too. Was that why she kept pulling away?
But if she didn’t want him, why was he pushing?
Because she doesn’t treat you like a defective puppy she’d have to fix.
Grabbing her spare tire from the back of his truck, he slid it into the back of her Jeep. She stood back as he closed the door, and he could tell she was nervous—her hands kept twisting.
“Well, you’re all set. You should get home and change out of those wet clothes. If you get sick, I’ll have to listen to one of those ridiculous weekend deejays, and they play nothing but crap.”
Everett started to head back to his truck, but she caught his hand. “Hey.”
Just the touch of her hand sent his heart from a trot to a gallop. He loved the way her soft skin wrapped around his.
Facing her, he waited, afraid to move a muscle and scare her off.
But she moved so fast, he wasn’t prepared when her lips brushed the scarred side of his face. He stiffened as the warmth seeped through his cheek, his stomach twisting up as a thousand thoughts and insecurities made him wince. Had the roughness repelled her? Why hadn’t she picked the untouched side?
“Thank you. For being kind.”
Callie dropped his hand and ran to her car, as if afraid he would come after her. As she started it and pulled forward, he was finally able to move again, backing up a ways to watch her disappear down the road.
Everett’s hand came up to rest against his cheek, and he realized that he’d lied to Callie when he said he didn’t want anything from her.
He wanted everything.

I close my eyes and draw in a long, slow breath. “Listen, Kade, I’m honored that you got up at 5:30 in the morning to spend time with me, but I don’t do this,” I say, as I wave my hand back and forth between us.

“You know that social isolation can alter functioning of the brain? Can lead to depression, health issues, and even impulsive behavior.”

Meet Deanna Eshler
I’m a Licensed Clinical Counselor, with a masters degree, but I choose not use my degree. In 2013 I quit my job, working with foster kids and families, to stay at home with my 2 kids. That decision is one of my better ones to date.
In addition to my education in counseling, I am certified through EAGALA to provide Equestrian Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). That training, and subsequent work using horses to help kids heal, is partially where my inspiration for Shy’s story began. Watching children, and families, gain insight into their own behaviors through the horses has been an amazing process. I should mention that I’m not currently using this certification either. I like to gather information, training, titles, but I’m not big on utilizing my new skills.
I started reading, for fun, around 2007. I thank Harry Potter for showing me that escaping in a book is the best therapy. Since that time, I have read more than 500 books. This is one thing I have stayed committed to. I prefer audio books, since I can fold clothes and read at the same time, but I usually have a kindle book I’m reading simultaneously.
I decided to write my own novel when I realized there are not enough books in the New Adult genre. This is my favorite genre, thanks to Colleen Hoover and Jamie McGuire. Once I started writing Shy’s story, I couldn’t have stopped if I wanted to. Sometimes she would wake me in the middle of the night to tell me what the next chapter was about. Writing her story, as well as her horse’s-Walker, was an emotional adventure. I hope you enjoy reading her story, as much as I enjoyed writing it.

REVIEW
I was lucky enough to receive this gorgeous paperback, which is the format I highly recommend, in exchange for an honest review.
This was such an absolute delight to read! The illustration is exquisite, and the creative ideas provided before each chapter are quite resourceful. Adri and Lorea are adorable, the “Bridezilla” is incorrigible, and the mystery is elusive. I love Christensen’s writing style, and her descriptive narrative makes every setting, taste, smell, and feeling almost tangible. The websites and craft ideas are pure genius! Elegant, descriptive, and entertaining!

Caden Carlisle is a world-renowned superstar with good looks, million dollar movie deals and women throwing themselves at him wherever he goes. He has it all… but wants nothing more than a normal life without the paparazzi and glitz.
Brooklyn Holloway is an up and coming starlet with a solid head on her shoulders and her eyes wide open. It’s all about art for her and she isn’t looking to star in blockbuster films. She’s perfectly happy keeping a low profile and doing indie projects with a message.
When fate throws the two of them together on set; both are unprepared for their undeniable connection. Cade is drawn to Brook’s down-to-earth wholesomeness and she can’t help the irresistible pull of his good looks, sense of humor and chivalrous ways… So, when he begins to think he’s in love with her, resisting is next to impossible, despite being committed to someone else.
Only when filming ends and the world’s fascination with celebrity invades their bubble, can they decide if the emotions they felt on set were scripted, or forever.
Cade moved a little, as if to say something, and I put a finger to his lips as a tear fell from my eye. “I couldn’t have done this with anyone else. You… brought me to life. Not just the character, but me. I’ve felt things with you, that… that I…” I stumbled over the words and shook my head, “…didn’t even know were possible. I care about you more than you know.”
I struggled to continue because I was crying softly. I sniffed back the tears as his hand tightened on mine again. “I’m really going to miss you.” I felt a sob well up within my chest, threatening to break free. “I’ll miss you, every day. I… um, I h-hope you’ll al- always remember…” My voice caught and I had to stop for a minute to keep from sobbing. I took a ragged breath, my throat seriously aching.
He brought my hand to his mouth to kiss my palm, his breath hot against my skin. “Oh, Brook…” he sighed. “This is the worst bloody moment of my life. It’s hell.”
I nodded. “I brought you something to remember me by, but please don’t open it until you get back to London,” I said, wiping away my tears with my free hand. I offered him a tumultuous smile, but I could barely manage it through my misery.
He took the package and placed a hand lovingly on the top. His eyes closed and he sighed heavily.
“I don’t need anything to remind me of you. I won’t forget a single detail, not a single second of our time together here,” he said softly. “But, thank you for wanting to leave me with some part of you. It means the world to me.”
When his eyes opened, he set the package on the bed then knelt down in front of me. One of his arms wrapped around my body and the other came up to cup my face, his thumb caressing the line of my jaw. My skin tingled where he touched me and my heart ached at the tears in his eyes. My shoulders started to shake in silent sobs. It hurt so fucking bad.
“Brook.” His beautiful blue eyes stared right into my heart. “You’ve always been stronger than me. You control your feelings so much better, than I.” The corners of his mouth lifted in a sad smile as his fingers brushed along my jaw.
I gave a little laugh through my tears. “I’m not feeling very strong right now, Cade.” I took a shaky breath. “The only way I’m gonna get through this is to believe that we’ll still keep in touch with each other. I feel so close to you. I don’t want to lose that.” A tear slipped from my lashes and slid down my face.
“There will be things we’ll need to do to promote the movie, so we’ll be together again for some of it.” His eyes searched my face as he spoke.
“I’m holding on to that. You’re so important to me.” I swallowed hard and bit my lip against the pain.
“We will be together again, I promise. I don’t know how I’ll survive without seeing your beautiful face every day.” I blushed at his words, and gave a shaky laugh, though my tears fell like rain.
I thought of my photo album gift, and knew now it was just what he would want.
“As the whole world will agree, you are the beautiful one.” My eyes rose to his face. His strong features were flooded with a mixture of confusion, sadness and denial.
He would never believe how extraordinary he was. He couldn’t see that he was amazing to everyone who met him and even millions who hadn’t. “I’ve always found you beautiful. From afar, I mean. When I watched your movies. But, who you are inside,” I placed my hand on his heart, “is the most beautiful part of you.” I tried to brush a tear away with the other. “I expected you to be so different then you turned out to be.”
Suddenly his arms went around me and my hands came around his forearms as we stared into each other’s eyes.
“My God, Brook. I know you don’t want me to say it, and I know I have no right, but if I don’t, it feels like I’ll die right here.” His voice broke on the words, and my heart stopped. “I’m SO in love with you.” He searched my face, trying to find an answer in my eyes. Tears were streaming down my cheeks as I put my hands up to hold his face.
“I love you…” he whispered, “and I don’t care if I’m going to hell for saying it out loud.” I could see how urgently he needed me to believe it. My heart thumped heavily and my breath caught, as I read the truth and emotion in his dark blue eyes.
“Cade.” At that moment, he was the only thing that existed in my world. I breathed his name as I kissed his eyes, his nose, his cheeks and forehead so softly. I opened my eyes, and moved my mouth down to his lips, hovering over his mouth.
Our kisses had always been so restrained. While passionate, so much was held back. We never really let ourselves kiss each other like I knew we both wanted to. I placed a feather light kiss on his lips, and I felt him draw in his breath, as his lips moved gently with mine. The moment of hesitation was wondrous: a pivotal moment in the fabric of my life, the precipice. If I jumped off, it either could kill me, or fill my wings and lift me up to heaven.
I knew this was the time to let Cade see my true feelings, and to take what I could of him while I had the chance. I could feel my body and my voice trembling, as I finally asked for what I’d been wanting for months.
“Cade, will you kiss me goodbye? As you… not Ryan,” I whispered against his lips.
He understood what I wanted, and his mouth crushed down on mine instantly, our lips parted, our tongues melding in deep, slow perfection. It was everything… and it wasn’t enough. As we kissed, we held each other tightly, our arms moving up and down each other’s bodies, and into each other’s hair, as our mouths devoured each other.
It was heaven. I never wanted the moment to end.
He pulled me closer, and I kissed him back so deeply that surely we would melt together. My tears and Cade’s mingled on our cheeks. Our kisses softened, still passionate and reverent. We couldn’t bear to separate and continued to hold each other, still placing little lingering clinging kisses on each other’s mouths as his hands cupped my face and he brushed my tears away with the pads of his thumbs. He took my lower lip between both of his and sucked on it lightly. I sighed into him, our breath meshing as he rested his forehead on mine.
I didn’t want to fight it anymore. I couldn’t.
How could I have ever questioned my feelings for this man? I loved him so much it stole my breath.

Ella comes up behind him. “It’s okay. You can talk to him. He’s mama’s friend.”
She raises her eyes up to me and grins.
I return my attention back to him, and he narrows his eyes.
“I’m Tyler. I’m four years old. Mama is twenty-four. How old are you?”
I smile as I answer, “I’m twenty-nine. Is it okay if I hang out with you and your mom?”
He shrugs, glancing up at Ella. “You have to ask Mama. She’s the Mama,” he says in all seriousness.
I nod, glancing to Ella. She’s smiling also.
“So what do you say, Ella? Can I hang out with you two tonight?”
“Sure,” she steps up to the porch to unlock the door.

REVIEW
This was a fast-paced read that I simply could not put down!
I admit that I was expecting more content pertaining to the wars during this period, but the author has done a superb job of delivering a thrilling alternative.
Mack and Cassie are intelligent, gorgeous, and very hard-headed! Both have inner demons, which sometimes cloud their judgment. It is this, along with a few other similarities that cause the fiery couple to butt heads. These altercations can be comedic, heartbreaking, and incredibly sexy! I enjoyed reading as the layers were peeled back and our hero and heroine were truly revealed.
This novel stands alone well. Each sorrowful scene was countered with either comedic relief, or an act of kindness. The mystery involved had me second guessing everyone, and I couldn’t get enough of the passion! I will be reading the rest of the author’s work, as the secondary characters are too wonderfully written to ignore. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and I recommend it for romance and mystery lovers.
About This Literary Chef
From a young age I could always be found carrying around books to read while watching my grandmother’s soap operas with her. I read anything and everything I could get my hands on and even made up skits and stories for my friends and me to act out. Once I outgrew the children’s and YA books, my mom introduced me to an entirely new world – contemporary romance. Upon discovering I had a love for history I began devouring historical romances. One day, sitting in a college British History class, something the professor said made me think, I wonder. I quickly called mom (also a writer) and ran the idea by her. After being told, “Of course you can do it, you’re my daughter,” the rest, as they say, is history. I currently share my love of reading with the next generation as a high school librarian, and share my personal life with my demanding dog trapped in a cat’s body, Ajax.
