Review
What an exciting novel!
While I’m a fan, this author never ceases to amaze me. Time after time, she produces a solid story line, with the perfect setting, background, beginning, middle and end. Intrigue, love, death, and even espionage are perfectly written. The anticipation kills me, but doesn’t torture me-that’s when you know you’re in the hands of expert. Sensual situations are pleasant, very tasteful, and very satisfying. Villains are appropriately placed and perfectly evil.
Everything was spot-on, here. From the apothecary to the weather, Meyette’s historical knowledge shines beautifully. The characters are lovely, and I felt their heartbreak, as well as their triumphs. Growing up a few miles behind the Cornwallis House, and raised in an historic town, made me quite familiar with this era. Reading this novel brought it all back to life again. I couldn’t put it down!
Such a brilliantly written novel, with a plethora of redeeming qualities! Definitely recommend!

” I knew the day was not going to end well as soon as I saw the gun. It bulged in the outside pocket of his backpack, hidden unless someone looked for it. Of course, I had to be the one looking for it.
Chad kept his head down in class, his pen scratching dark lines of some doodle across his paper. I couldn’t drag my gaze away from him.
He’d brought a gun. Damn it. He was going to follow through with his plan.
I was focusing so hard on the knot of guilt in my stomach and the tangle of plans to stop Chad that Bea had to kick my chair to alert me class had started. Of course, Bea had to be in this class with the homicidal kid who was my responsibility.
I did a quick head count. It was Friday, half-day schedule, last period, with spring break starting next week. Most everyone had ditched already, and only thirteen people remained, including our teacher.
Unfortunately, just enough of the students on Chad’s list stayed for the last class. “

Jessica Gibson is a recovering bookaholic, she’s down from four books a week to a more reasonable one. It was that love of words and creativity that made her dream about writing her first book.
